In the 1980s, Lyka Ugarte—a Filipino actress, model, and former beauty queen—became well-known. She was the 1983 Most Beautiful Girl in the Philippines winner as well as the first runner-up in the Mutya ng Pilipinas pageant. In 1986 and 1988, she also adopted the role of face for White Castle whiskey, joining the ranks of other well-known actresses such as Lorna Tolentino and Carmi Martin.
She collaborated with some of the biggest stars in Philippine cinema, appearing in a number of erotic and comedic films.
